I heard on a radio newscast today that the recession is affecting the cost of 2010 Super Bowl advertising. A 30 second ad for last year’s Super Bowl ad cost on average 3 million. An ad for this year’s Super Bowl is down to 2.5 million and maybe lower.

Pepsi has decided not to run an ad during the Super Bowl like 2009 Super Bowl Ad below.

Pepsi has been running Super Bowl ads for 23 straight years and has decided to invest in other forms of advertising like cause-oriented marketing campaign most likely promoted in part via the internet.

Has the recession affected TV advertising or has the internet? I found several articles with headlines like:

Internet Advertising is gaining momentum over Television Advertising

Is the Game Over for TV Advertising?

Internet Advertising Robust Even in Recesssion

I saw another article claiming TV advertising will continue to grow and be a large share of advertising expenditures but the growth will come from internet delivered programming. Sounds like internet advertising to me.

My point is the internet is and continues to be the “medium” to invest in advertising and promoting your business or product. Contact me if you want a website or blog for your business or product.

Instead of you just taking my word for it, I searched the internet for other internet marketing experts opinion of the benefit of blogging. Not only did I find an article about the benefits of blogging but I also found someone who agrees with me on the benefits of using WordPress for your self hosted blog platform.

Scott Van Achte is the Senior SEO at StepForth Web Marketing Inc.; based in Victoria, BC, Canada and founded in 1997. He wrote in Site Pro News:

“It’s no secret that a continually updated website with new content being added regularly stands a good chance of doing well in Google. One of the long standing methods to regularly expand a site’s content is through the use of a blog.

While there are numerous platforms to choose from for managing a blog, few can compare with the immense flexibility offered with WordPress, and at a cost of free, the price can’t be beat either.

Google likes fresh new content, and setting up a blog on your site, assuming it is updated often with interesting and relevant material, can be one of the best things you can do to help out your search rankings.

The key to building a successful blog is to update your blog regularly and to make sure you are using the same relevant keywords in each blog post.

Regularly means 2 to 3 blog posts a week on average when you are first starting out and at least on a week to maintain the freshness of your blog and content.

Relevant keywords are the top 3+ words or phrases you have chosen as your marketing focus for search engine searches.

Following these 2 simple blogging tips can build the traffic you desire for your blog or website.

The following is a post I wrote over a year ago for activerain.com and homesfortmill.com. The subjectof a blog versus a static website is still current and talked about by many today.

I created two separate websites for Carmen’s real estate business. One was a static website and the other a CMS based self hosted WordPress blog. The blog quickly outranked the static website on most search engine keyword searches. Why? I created new blog posts weekly and over time the blog had much more keyword rich content versus the static website.

I would recommend to a new real estate agent wanting to start a new website they may benefit more from creating a blog versus creating a static website. In fact I think a blog could fit many small business web marketing needs including neighborhood clubs or organizations. Example: momsclubtegacay.com

Here are some pluses to using a blog platform rather than just a static website:

Blog software is becoming more design flexible.

Search engines like content and blogs when maintained properly feed the engine.

Blogs are easier to update.

Most people with a little training can maintain a blog versus having to go to a web design company or webmaster for each update.

The main con to blogging is the time needed to be effective. And if you write posts that aren’t full of your prime keywords, you’ll spend a lot of time blogging without accomplishing the search engine ranking your seeking.

To really get the bang for your buck and good search engine ranking, add a blog to a static website. Better yet, as I like to do, build the static website around the blog.

What are your opinions?
