My nerd claim to fame was attending computer camp in the mid-eighties at age 9. I don’t think I knew what an Apple was at that point. I wanted an Atari 2600 gaming system, like my friends had, but my dad got us the Atari 800 “personal computer”. At camp I learned to code Mad Libs style stories in the BASIC programming language, and create graphics by specifying pixel coordinates.

In college, I convinced my dad to shell out a few G’s on a Power Mac 7100, because that’s what graphic designers needed, supposedly. Now, I use a MacBook Pro and design online user experiences with a variety of Adobe apps… and a basic text editor, of course.
